Loading... Please wait...Started in 2007, Pant Saggin Dezign is the creation of Ryan and Curt Flaitz. The two brothers from a small town in Upstate New York believed that, while the clothing industry is a flooded market, brands that consumers can truly identify with are few and far between. So with Ryan, an artist since childhood, using his hand drawn designs, and Curt doing the marketing, the two set about growing their customer base one person at a time to usher in PSD’s “Era of Change.”
Beginning with the local Northeastern motocross, skateboarding, wakeboard, and music scenes, PSD traveled to as many events as possible. Only one year after starting the company on their own dime, Ryan and Curt took their “Self Made, Self Paid” philosophy on the road, hitting both the amateur and pro motocross nationals in 2008 and 2009, attending garment conventions and many other non-sporting events along the way. With each stop the brand recognition grew, and in a relatively short period of time, Pant Saggin Dezign had a devout following.
While the company name itself describes a certain style, it also refers to the greater changing trends in the way people dress. As the Flaitz brothers say, “you don’t wear your pants as high as your father’s”, which is something their followers and fans can identify with.
2010 marked a banner year for PSD as it made the jump from the alternative and action sports scene into the mainstream. Pant Saggin clothing was prominently displayed on MTV’s Made, Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ’N Out, and The Real World, along with appearances on Fuel TV’s American Misfits, and during coverage of the Dew Tour and Supercross racing on ESPN and the Speed Channel.
A big break also came at the hands of the celebrity tabloid magazines when Jamie Lynn Spears appeared on the cover of Star, People Weekly, Ok! Weekly, and Us, flooding the PSD office with inquiries and order.
From the start, the Flaitz's were well aware that in order to appeal to the consumers, they needed their products on people who get noticed. PSD has been supporting athletes in most of the target action sports arena from early on, and now that list of sponsorships has matured into a select group, including:
Amateur motocross aces Zach and Chase Bell, who collectively have over 70 national titles and are the only riders training under Ricky Carmichael's wing. Alexah Pearson, the 2010 AMA Women's Motocross Amateur National Champion and 2010 WMA Rookie of the Year. Pearson will contend the entire 2011 Pro WMA series as a factory KTM rider. Wakeboarder Freddy Wayne who is currently ranked sixth in the nation and trains along side legend Shaun Murray.
Up and coming skateboarder Zack Krawl holds two Guiness World Records and has won more than 20 National Championships including the Zumiez Couch Tour and the Gatorade Free Flow Tour. R&B artists the New Boyz who are some of the most influential artists in the street/club clothing industry and have three platinum singles.
In September 2010, Ryan and Curt were approached by Journeys retail stores for a trial run of PSD clothing. After a three-day period of online sales sold out, Journeys expanded their offer and. Now, along with West Coast retailer Anchor Blue, Pant Saggin Dezigns is now carried in over 1300 stores across the country.
For 2011 and beyond, racing powerhouse Joe Gibbs Racing brought on Pant Saggin to do the art work for a new line of JGRMX apparel that will soon be available both online and at stops of the national pro and amateur tours beginning in March. The pairing was a natural match, as both enterprises are on the short track to success, have an old school work ethic, and have their own way of getting things done.
Currently on the 2011 Almost Somebody Tour, the Pant Saggin Dezign rig is unmistakable in any setting, be it a concert venue or in the pits of a motocross race, PSD always receives plenty of attention as it travels the country spreading the word one person at a time. But this is only the beginning, and the Flaitz's are determined to reach what has always been the goal: building the “PSD Nation.”
